The FIA has confirmed Team Lotus, Renault and Virgin have all been granted permission to change their chassis names from the start of 2012.
Team Lotus, which is already being referred to as the Caterham F1 Team in official FIA documents, will call its chassis a Caterham from 2012. Renault, still listed under the full name Lotus Renault GP, will call its chassis a Lotus next year. And Virgin, now known as the Marussia F1 Team, will call its chassis a Marussia.
The name changes were approved by stakeholders in the sport at the F1 Commission meeting last week, and on Sunday the FIA issued a formal press release as confirmation.
"The FIA, on the basis of the support expressed by its F1 Commission chaired by Bernie Ecclestone, which had a meeting in Geneva on November 3, has agreed the following team name changes as from 2012:
Team Name | Chassis Name |
Caterham F1 Team | From Lotus to Caterham |
Lotus Renault GP | From Renault to Lotus |
Marussia F1 Team | From Virgin to Marussia |
