Webber gives midfield 'some of their own medicine'

Mark Webber said that he was able to give the midfield teams "some of their own medicine" by using strategy to drive through the field to fourth place.

Having had a DRS failure during qualifying Webber started the race in 19th place and had to try to stop less times than the cars in front in order to make progress. He admitted that he had no idea how the race was shaping up around him as it unfolded, but declared praised his Red Bull team for getting the strategy and car right.

"I'm very happy with today," Webber said. "We've had a tough weekend up until today. I wasn't too happy even in the middle of the race; strategy-wise you don't really understand what's going on, what people are doing and what's going to happen in the last 15% of the grand prix. Obviously there was a bit of attrition at the front today, which we'll take, and it's a very good day to me. The guys boxed down and did a very good job with the car overnight, managed to get it all working well and in the end we got a lot of points."

Webber admitted that he was pleased with being stronger than those ahead at the end of the race.

"At the time I thought no-one knows (if the strategy is right). You don't know. We tried to make a different strategy work at the start; obviously the safety car I thought people on the prime getting home from there is not going to be great for me - I had to make another stop - but the prime didn't have the range to get home from there. So in the end the track temperatures did us a bit of a favour because we had another stop to do and the people that tried to get home from there couldn't. So for once it was nice to give Perez and all these guys some of their own medicine."
