2014 a season to forget - Raikkonen
Kimi Raikkonen says 2014 has been a season to forget after struggling for performance all year.
Raikkonen has scored just 47 points this year and lies 12th in the championship with a fourth place finish in Belgium his best result. His main issue has been adapting to a lack of front-end grip in the Ferrari, which has not allowed him to drive the way he wants.
Asked whether his first season back at Ferrari since 2009 had been one to forget, Raikkonen said: "Every season that you don't win the championship … I've only won one and you can more or less forget the rest. You are here to try to win races and the championship and when you don't manage to do that championship you have failed every time. Finishing second or 20th makes not much difference.
"It's been a hard year but for sure we have learned things from this year that will help us in the future, but it's not so much fun when you have difficult race after race. When you have a better chance it is obviously more fun for everyone, but that's how it goes in Formula One sometimes and we have to believe in what we do. I'm sure we can get back to where we should be and then things can be forgotten."
Raikkonen is hoping next year's car will bring improvements, but admits he will not know for sure until pre-season testing next February.
"There are numbers and things you hear, but it's the same story that once you get the car on the circuit then you really know how good it is and how it feels. There are so many things and changes even a little bit can effect on that. They started earlier in the year on the design of the new car and obviously all the things we have been doing this year they listen to us and obviously make some changes and try to improve the areas where we feel we are lacking in performance.
"The fact is that we won't know exactly how it is until the first test. But I believe in the people and we will get a much, much better car and better package. But how good? In February next year we will know."
