McLaren should keep Button - Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton believes Jenson Button deserves to keep his drive next year, saying McLaren's problem is its car and not its drivers.
Button's position is under threat from Fernando Alonso, whose next logical move would be to McLaren once he leaves Ferrari at the end of the year. Hamilton, who left McLaren for Mercedes in 2013, says Button deserves better treatment from his old team, who he believes needs to focus on the performance of its car first and foremost.
"He's still got plenty of time in his capability as a driver to keep racing and winning," Hamilton was quoted by Reuters. "He just needs to be given a better car. It's not the team need a better driver. There are not many out there. They need a better car."
Hamilton rates Button among the top drivers on the grid in Formula One.
"It is [odd] when Jenson is better than most of the drivers. He's a great driver. He's had an amazing career, and he's still one of the strongest drivers here, so it doesn't correlate.
"If I had a team, I would want him in it. He's a great asset for any team. He's also just a decent guy. I hope it's not the case."
