Fernando Alonso got a very brief first taste of Ferrari's updated F10 at the team's Fiorano test track during a filming day last week.

Although there is currently an in-season testing ban in Formula One, all teams are allowed to complete limited promotional running during which cars are videoed and photographed for sponsors. Alonso had been taking part in an event with Ferrari owners on Thursday morning and then made his F1 debut on the legendary Fiorano circuit in the afternoon.

"Fernando did a few laps of the track at the wheel of the F10 for promotional purposes, filming not only for partners of the Reds [Ferrari] but also for some novel features which will soon enliven the new section on the Ferrari website, dedicated to Formula 1," the team said on its website. "Even though he only completed very few kilometres, further limited by the demands of the film script, it was nevertheless Fernando's debut at the Fiorano circuit at the wheel of a Ferrari Formula 1 car: you have to make the most of any opportunity in this era of the testing ban!"

The modified F10 will get its full debut at the European Grand Prix next weekend where it will be running a new low-slung Red Bull-style exhaust system. Ferrari also revealed that test driver Marc Gene was at the wheel of the car for an aerodynamic test at Vairano last week. The team is hoping the updates will close the gap to the front and it has been predicted that it could stand to find up to 0.7 seconds a lap.

Ferrari on Tuesday confirmed that there will be "several modifications and updates", although "not quite as far-reaching or extensive as reports have suggested". It added: "The most significant feature is a new configuration for the exhaust system, aimed at improving the aerodynamic efficiency of the car."
