The FIA's Gala event - at which the Formula One champion is officially crowned - will take place in New Delhi next year.

The end-of-season event is traditionally held in Monte Carlo but Indian reports have revealed that it is set to switch for 2011. The news was confirmed by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), after its chairman and Force India boss Vijay Mallya made a presentation at the recent World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) meeting.

"It is a clear indication that India is now well and truly on the world map even in the motor sport world," FMSCI president K D Madan said.

The event will cap a season that will see the inaugural Indian Grand Prix take place, also set to be staged in the country's capital. A WMSC meeting and the governing body's Annual General Meeting are also scheduled in New Delhi next year.
