Sergio Aguero has announced on his Twitter account that he has joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid.

Aguero, 23, underwent a medical at City on Wednesday ahead of a proposed transfer thought to be in the region of £40 million. It is reported he will put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract.

Aguero, who had made no secret of his desire to leave Atletico, reportedly refused to return to training in Madrid as a City deal gathered pace, and on Wednesday evening he claimed the deal was done.

"I'm already a City player," Aguero posted on his Twitter page. "I'm happy to be at this club in this city. Thank you all for the welcome and reception."

Although he was initially lined up as a potential replacement for wantaway striker Carlos Tevez, City pressed on with their pursuit of Aguero regardless when their skipper's move to Brazilian club Corinthians fell through.

While City are yet to confirm the signing, Aguero could make his City debut at the Dublin Super Cup at the weekend. In the squad named for the trip to Ireland, strikers Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko, John Guidetti and Andrea Mancini have been named, with City hopeful "plus one other" player yet to be named could be Aguero.

The Argentina international scored 20 league goals for Atletico last season, the same tally as his compatriot Tevez, who could still leave Eastlands this summer after admitting he is unsettled in Manchester.
