Arsenal still better than Spurs - Szczesny

Wojciech Szczesny has laughed off talk of a power shift in north London, insisting Arsenal are still a stronger club than Tottenham.

Szczesny has warned Spurs that one win does not mean Arsenal have surrendered the dominance they have enjoyed over the last 20 years, after Tottenham claimed a 2-1 win over their rivals at the weekend.

"You can't make such a statement after a couple of months after our poor start to the season or after just one game," Szczesny said.

"I think Spurs are a great club and they have shown today that they can play really good football, but are they better than Arsenal? I don't really think so."

The loss leaves Arsenal 12 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United, as manager Arsene Wenger conceded his team were out of the title race. However, Szczesny is convinced the team can still challenge for the honours this campaign.

"We have to improve our performances and then we just want to give ourselves the best chance of finishing high in the table, getting in the top four, and possibly winning the championship," he said.

"We have lost four games and Manchester United and Manchester City have lost none so we are behind at the moment but I believe every single team in the league will have a period somewhere where they play poorly.

"We had a poor start but I think we can kick off the season after the international break. Hopefully we can catch up. I hope we can do it as soon as possible. The fans deserve better."

Szczesny, meanwhile, suffered a back injury and has withdrawn from Poland's upcoming internationals against South Korea and Belarus.
