Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is to undergo a minor heart operation on Wednesday.

The club reported on Tuesday that the 64-year-old would miss the trip to Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday for medical reasons. And they have now issued an update, confirming Redknapp will undergo a heart operation.

Redknapp claimed on Tuesday evening that he hoped to be back at work in a couple of days. He said: "I feel fine, I've just come in for a couple of days to have some tests, that's all. I'm hoping I can be back at work again in a couple of days."

The Spurs boss, who has been linked with the England job, spoke earlier in the season of finding it tough to commute from his home in Dorset to north London.

With Redknapp absent from the trip to Russia, his assistant manager Kevin Bond and first-team coach Joe Jordan will take charge of the team. Spurs sit top of Group A and a win would take them into the knockout phase.
