Sergio Aguero hopes to achieve at Manchester City what father-in-law Diego Maradona managed at Napoli.

The Argentina international will come up against the Italian side in Naples on Tuesday, at the same ground where Maradona became a cult hero - leading the previously unsuccessful club to Serie A titles in both 1987 and 1990.

Aguero would love to lead Manchester City into an era of similar success in the Premier League, but admits in the modern game it is as important for the team to function as a unit as it is to have one star player.

"In the past he told me everything about Napoli, and I have also seen on TV what he did, how important he was for the fans. This is matter of pride for me because I am Argentinian," Aguero said. "It is my dream, doing what Maradona did for Napoli, doing the same for Manchester City.

"But I don't want to talk about myself, it is important Manchester City do well as a team."

Maradona will not be at the Champions League game following the death of his mother. "I couldn't speak to him because of the situation, the loss of his mother," Aguero said. "I just want to send the best wishes to him at this moment."

Aguero will also face international team-mate Ezequiel Lavezzi at Stadio San Paolo, a player City manager Roberto Mancini was reported to be interested in signing in the summer, before eventually opting for the former Atletico Madrid man. But Aguero hopes a reunion at the Etihad Stadium could still happen.

"We don't get a chance to be together [often] so we will usually speak about other things," he said of Lavezzi. "Also, it would also be a lack of respect towards our clubs - but mainly I ask him to come to join Manchester City."
