Villas-Boas hopeful of new Drogba deal

Andre Villas-Boas is confident he can convince Didier Drogba to sign a new contract at Chelsea.

The Ivory Coast striker is out of contract at the end of the season and has frequently been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

With Villas-Boas adamant £50 million signing Fernando Torres will not be sold, and Daniel Sturridge showing impressive form this season, Drogba has been linked with a move away from Chelsea, having rejected a new one-year deal last month.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has expressed his interest, while Drogba has also been linked with Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala and Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, where Nicolas Anelka is heading in January.

But despite Drogba's intention to secure a final big-money move, Villas-Boas is confident they will be able to agree a new deal for the 33-year-old.

"Didi is important, it's straightforward," Villas-Boas said. "It's not just because he is performing now that we are going to change our mind. The conversation has been ongoing since the beginning and we are looking to push for that.

"It's not just my decision. It's a decision between the two parts and we have to wait and see what kind of agreement we reach."
