Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp confirmed on Friday that he is still yet to be approached by the Football Association over the vacant England manager's job.

Redknapp is considered the overwhelming favourite to succeed Fabio Capello as the permanent head coach of the Three Lions, although Stuart Pearce will oversee next week's friendly against Netherlands on a temporary basis.

Speculation linking Redknapp with the job has been rife - with FA chairman David Bernstein even making the trip to Stevenage to watch Spurs in action in the FA Cup last weekend - but the man himself insists he is yet to be formally contacted by the FA, despite Capello leaving the role over two weeks ago.

"No, I haven't been approached," Redknapp confirmed on Friday.

One of Pearce's biggest decisions next week will be who to appoint captain for the international friendly at Wembley. While aware of the other worthy candidates, Redknapp put his weight behind Spurs midfielder Scott Parker.

"It's up to Stuart who he picks but Scotty would be a good captain," he noted. "There are a lot of good candidates there but Scott has captained the team here a couple of times this year and he is a fantastic boy, a great professional.

"You couldn't get a better boy. He is a top-class person and a top-class player."
