Kenny Dalglish has confirmed Liverpool are likely to be without Daniel Agger for a number of weeks, while they are awaiting news on the extent of Steven Gerrard's hamstring injury.

Agger fractured a rib during the Carling Cup final win over Cardiff and after sitting out Denmark's friendly with Russia on Wednesday, it has been confirmed the defender is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

"He's got a fractured rib, so maybe it will be a few weeks," Dalglish told the club's official website. "Anybody that is injured is a miss. Daniel has been playing fantastically well this year, but we'll miss anybody that is not fit and available.

"The squad is there to cover eventualities, injuries and suspensions - and we'll need to cover for Daniel if he's going to be out for a few weeks."

Gerrard was on international duty, but he lasted just 33 minutes of England's clash with Netherlands before being withdrawn.

Stuart Pearce described the problem as minor, but Reds boss Dalgish is awaiting news before making a decision on whether his captain will be fit to face Arsenal at the weekend.

He said: "If I don't know what it is, I can't tell you whether there is every chance or no chance [of Gerrard facing Arsenal], so rather than speculate it's best for us to just wait and see what the medical people have to say once they've seen him."
