'Gutted' Wilshere ruled out of Euros

Jack Wilshere has been ruled out of representing England at this summer's European Championships by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Wilshere has been making a slow recovery from ankle surgery that has seen him miss the entirety of the season to date. Wenger has always maintained the last few weeks of April will prove crucial in deciding whether or not he is fit enough to join up with his international team-mates for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine - and has now said the 20-year-old will not be able to go.
The Frenchman made the announcement after seeing his side beaten 2-1 by Wigan on Monday evening.
"Jack Wilshere will not play again this season, and will not play at the Euros," he said. "He is making slow progress. He will not be ready.
He added: "He is not ready to practice today or next week. He makes progress, but slow progress. What is for sure is he will not be ready for the end of the season and not for the Euros.
"He is devastated, and you can understand that."
Wilshere, a prominent user of the social networking site Twitter, later said he was "gutted" not to be able to represent the Three Lions at his first major international tournament.
"Gutted, sad, devastated ... it's been a test mentally for me this season and it will continue to be tough until I am back out on the pitch," Wilshere said. "My ankle is good, I just have a few niggles and having been out so long I will not be fit enough for the Euros!
"I hope England can do well and bring home the cup! I will be watching and cheering the boys on like a proper England fan!"
Wilshere broke down in the pre-season Emirates Cup on August 1 last year, after seeming to cause an injury to his ankle in England's game against Switzerland at the end of the 2010-11 campaign.
His ankle suffered a stress fracture and he underwent surgery in September which was expected to rule him out for four to five months. However, he suffered a recurrence in February and has not been able to return to full training.
