Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool are in talks with Swansea over a potential move for midfielder Joe Allen.

Rodgers, who left the Liberty Stadium earlier this summer to replace Kenny Dalglish at Anfield, is hoping to be reunited with Allen, who is currently on Olympic duty with Team GB.

The Swans have a written agreement with Rodgers that he will not try to sign any of his former players for 12 months, but the club have the right to waive that clause if they feel a deal is in the best interests of the club.

Swansea released a statement on Wednesday expressing their disappointment that Liverpool had made an approach for the Wales international, but Rodgers insists he remains on good terms with chairman Huw Jenkins.

"We have just spoken with Swansea," Rodgers told Sky Sports News. "I have got a brilliant relationship with Huw Jenkins the chairman. We have had a private conversation which will remain private.

"On the back end of that there has been lots of media speculation and gossip of which unfortunately some of it is not true. Joe is a very talented player but he is a Swansea player."
