AC Milan have confirmed the signing of midfielder Nigel de Jong from Manchester City.

Nigel De Jong has officially completed his move from Manchester City to AC Milan and has spoken of his happiness at joining the Rossoneri.

The move was confirmed by the Manchester City player as he spoke to journalists waiting for him at the airport, also telling them he was looking forward to playing in another great derby encounter.

"Milan will be competitive, both in Italy and in Europe. I'm very happy to have joined Milan," De Jong said. "It is a fascinating club with a great history. After having experienced the Manchester derby, I will now get to experience the Milan derby."

De Jong, 27, had less than 12 months remaining on his contract and is believed to have cost the Rossoneri somewhere between €3.5 and €5 million.

Manchester City bought the Netherlands international from Hamburg for €18 million just three years ago and he played 128 games, scoring one goal, during his time at Eastlands.

"To City fans, De Jong was nothing other than honest, hard-working and committed," said a statement on the City website. "He was the embodiment of determination and an integral part of the team for more than three years as well as being very popular among his team-mates.

"Everyone at City wishes Nigel the best of luck with Milan and thank him for his excellent service with the club."
