Brook promoter: Mayweather is playing promo tricks

Promoter Eddie Hearn's anger at Devon Alexander's potential match-up with Floyd Mayweather Jr has turned to ridicule.

Hearn's client Kell Brook was set to fight Alexander on February 23 in Detroit but the American pulled out of the fight with a bicep injury on Tuesday - and the next day Mayweather claimed the Missouri man would be his next opponent.

After pledging to "fight tooth and nail" to keep Brook's shot at the IBF welterweight title alive, Hearn has now branded Mayweather's antics of naming Alexander a stunt.

Money's aim, suggested Hearn, is to encourage Robert Guerrero to sign a contract to fight him on May 4 in Las Vegas, because negotiations are stalling.

"There is a belief that it is a smokescreen into getting Guerrero to take the Mayweather fight because they are having a few problems," Hearn is quoted as saying on boxingscene.com

"Can you honestly see Floyd Mayweather fighting Devon Alexander? I just can't. It's an awful fight, two slippery counter-punchers, and they have the same manager: Al Haymon.

"If it's true, I would expect the title to become vacant and Kell would fight for it against another leading contender. If it isn't true, and I suspect it isn't, then we will get a new date either this week or early next week."
