Former England goalkeeper David Seaman has criticised Manuel Pellegrini for dropping Joe Hart from Manchester City's starting line-up.

Costel Pantilimon has been in goal for City in their last four games after Pellegrini omitted Hart following a series of mistakes.

The England international has made high-profile errors for goals scored by Cardiff's Fraizer Campbell, Aston Villa's Andreas Weimann, Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery and Chelsea's Fernando Torres.

But former City keeper Seaman, who won 75 caps and was a first choice in four major tournaments between 1996 and 2002, believes Hart is much the best of the current crop of English goalkeepers and feels Pellegrini should have had more faith in the former Birmingham City player.

Seaman told TalkSport: "Hart is brilliant. I was surprised he was dropped by City. He's a quality goalkeeper and is playing big pressure games every week and you can't say that about the other goalkeepers."

England manager Roy Hodgson has said Hart remains his preferred pick in goal and Seaman added: "He's by far our best keeper and I was glad Roy came out and backed him.

"That's what you want as a goalkeeper. It's a shame his own [club] manager hasn't backed him as well."
