Tottenham are preparing a £20 million January bid for Mohamed Salah, according to reports.

The Basel winger, dubbed the Egyptian Messi, scored in both Champions League group games against Chelsea, including the winner in Tuesday's 1-0 victory.

Spurs' sporting director Franco Baldini was in Switzerland to watch the the 21-year-old in action, having first come to the attention of the White Hart Lane hierarchy when he played a starring role in dumping Spurs out of last season's Europa League.

Tottenham are desperate for goals in a campaign that has seen them score just nine times and left manager Andre Villas-Boas "clinging" to his job.
