FA looking into Moyes comments

The FA is looking into Manchester United manager David Moyes' comments about "having to play the opposition and the officials" after his side's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sunderland in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Moyes hit out at referee Andre Marriner after the game, along with Ryan Giggs, and could now face action from the FA.

Giggs scored a rare own goal when Sunderland opened the scoring but United were annoyed that a free kick was given against Jonny Evans, who challenged Steven Fletcher, before Sebastian Larsson's set-piece led to the chance.

Fabio Borini then went on to score a winner from the penalty spot when Marriner, advised by his assistant Peter Bankes, ruled that Tom Cleverley had fouled Adam Johnson.

"I feel we are having to play the opposition and the officials," Moyes said. "They gave a free kick on the first goal that I couldn't believe. Maybe I have got to understand that's what happens at Manchester United - they are certainly not giving us much at this moment in time.

"For the penalty the linesman gives it, but he can't see through Patrice Evra. The referee is looking right at it and is in a very good position - not too close, not too far away, but he turns around. The linesman gives it.

"I just think it is incredible when you think we didn't get one the other week for the [Hugo Lloris] challenge against Tottenham. It's hard to take, it really is."

Moyes could face a fine and a touchline ban if the FA charges him with misconduct, while there is also an investigation into flares allegedly thrown by United fans in the away end.
