Landon Donovan admits he "wants" to join Everton on loan, but he concedes that concerns over his fitness have made the deal no more than a "50-50" chance.

The LA Galaxy striker has been strongly linked with a move to Europe after the end of the MLS season, with Goodison Park the most likely destination following a successful spell there last winter.

Donovan helped to revive Everton's flagging fortunes, playing 13 times and inspiring the Toffees to surge up the table before returning to America.

Now, one day after David Moyes was snubbed by David Beckham, Donovan has indicated a strong interest in returning to the Premier League.

However, having played a full part at the World Cup and the subsequent MLS campaign, the American admits he must ensure his body is in the right shape before committing to a move. "I want to go back - how could I not after last time?" Donovan said on a possible return to Everton. "But I have to be responsible to my body. It is 50-50 at the moment."
