Harry Redknapp has revealed Tottenham are making slow progress in their bid to sign David Beckham on loan, with the club only getting permission for the former England international to train with the squad on Friday.

Beckham is keen to secure a short-term loan move to Spurs, but his club LA Galaxy have stood firm on their desire to have the midfielder back with them for the start of pre-season training in February.

Spurs want to strike a deal to keep the player until at least March and talks are progressing, although slowly. Beckham has looked to put the wrangle to one side by training with Spurs and he has been pictured working with the squad all week.

However, in a bizarre twist, Redknapp has revealed that Spurs have only just received permission for the 35-year-old to take part in training.

"We have only just got permission, it has just been agreed, that he can train with us today," Redknapp said at his press conference on Friday. "There has been a bit of issue over that, so he has been joining in doing little bits. But they have now said he can join in today and join in with everything we are doing in training.

"I have had no conversation with anyone at LA Galaxy, so at the moment I don't think there is any progress on him playing."
