Harry not giving up on Beckham deal

Harry Redknapp has admitted the door is still ajar for Tottenham to secure the loan capture of David Beckham.

Beckham has signalled his intention to secure a short-term stay in England ahead of the start of the MLS season with LA Galaxy in March and his preferred option is a switch to Tottenham, having undergone a medical at the club. Spurs boss Redknapp spoke of his confidence about striking a deal on Saturday, but a wrangle over insurance appeared to put the skids under the deal.

However, Beckham pitched up at Spurs' training ground on Monday and is reportedly willing to accept a wage cut in order to secure a deal. And Redknapp has not given up hope that chairman Daniel Levy can strike an agreement.

"It is great to have him here," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "Everyone has worked hard to get him here and we were hoping he would come and play obviously.

"No one could have worked harder than the chairman, Daniel Levy, everybody. They grafted away to try and get a deal done so he could play for us, but it was a bit complicated. You never know, though, and we will see how we go."

Redknapp feels Beckham will be able to hit the ground running if a deal can be reached. He said: "He is a fit lad and looks like he is in great condition. That would not be a problem, but whether it is possible to do it I am not sure."
