Newcastle reject second Liverpool bid for Carroll

Newcastle have rejected a second offer from Liverpool for Andy Carroll.

The Reds came in with a bid of £30m on Monday, which was swiftly turned down by Newcastle. And a second offer, believed to be in the region of £35m, was put to the Magpies and this too has been knocked back.

Carroll was at Newcastle's training ground as normal on Monday, but it was claimed that he was whisked away during the afternoon. This was interpreted as an indication that he was heading to Merseyside for talks, but that would appear to be premature following confirmation that a fresh offer for the England international had been turned down.

Liverpool are believed to be in talks with Chelsea over the proposed sale of Fernando Torres and it remains to be seen if they return with a higher offer for Carroll, with the clock ticking down to the end of the transfer window at 11pm.

Carroll is feeling his way back to fitness following a thigh injury, having not played for Newcastle since the end of December.
