Force India team principal Vijay Mallya has had an arrest warrant issued against him in India.

A court in Hyderabad issued the warrant after Mallya did not attend a case brought against his airline business by the operator of the city's international airport, reportedly related to unpaid user charges worth 105 million rupees. According to the Times of India he failed to attend despite a court summons, but sought exemption from appearing as he was abroad.

Kingfisher Airlines has been grounded since the start of the month due to pilots and engineers going on strike over complaints about unpaid salaries. The carrier is hoping to resume operations on October 21 but has reported losses over the past five years.

Several reports say it is unlikely Mallya will be arrested imminently and he may seek a cancellation of the warrant. However, if unresolved the issue will cast a shadow over Force India's home race in Greater Noida in two weeks time.
