Raikkonen 'will race whatever happens'

Kimi Raikkonen says he will race in the German Grand Prix even if the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA) boycotts the race.

The GPDA released a statement on Thursday night saying it would boycott the race if there is a repeat of the tyre failures which struck the British Grand Prix last weekend. However, Raikkonen is not a member of the GPDA and he said there was no chance he would consider pulling out of the race.

"I haven't seen [the statement], I just heard about it," Raikkonen said. "I'm sure it's not going to happen anyhow, but I was once involved I think in 2005 and funnily enough there was some guys that didn't stop and they drove so for sure I will race whatever happens.

"I would race. The problems are not always just because of the tyres. There can be a lot of influences why it is has happened and we haven't had a single problem the whole year so I have no feeling that it will be dangerous. It's dangerous anyhow; anything can happen and I think the reason why they exploded was the teams were using them wrong."

Asked if he was invited to the GPDA meeting, Raikkonen replied: "Yes, but I'm not a part of it so sometimes I go but I hear about it all as quickly as you guys."

With Lotus looking competitive in practice - Raikkonen was fifth quickest in FP2 behind team-mate Romain Grosjean - Raikkonen said he thinks the combination of the track and tyre choices is suiting the team.

"It's more or less the car that we had last week so I think part of it for sure is the circuit maybe; it's a more high-downforce circuit so it probably suits us better than the low downforce. Also the soft tyres - it's a long time since we ran them - and for some reason it seems to be a bit better for us.

"I don't really expect much different. For sure the front four cars will be very fast in qualifying but the race is always a different story. We'll have to wait and see how it goes; I think the weather will get much hotter so that should only help us."
