Webber aims for victory from third on the grid

Mark Webber is confident he will be in a position to challenge for victory at the German Grand Prix on Sunday after qualifying third on the grid.

Webber was 0.21s off the pace of Lewis Hamilton's pole position lap, but had to settle for a second row start after team-mate Sebastian Vettel took second place. Although the final qualifying session was a tense affair, Webber, who has won at the Nurburgring before, is confident Red Bull will have the upper hand over the course of the race.

"We know there was a shift in track temp [during qualifying] and that pulled everyone together a bit, at least on the short runs," he said. "On the long runs we're very happy with the car so we're in a good position to put pressure on for the win tomorrow."

Webber said he did not know where he had lost time to Hamilton and Vettel, but said he was happy to secure third on the grid.

"I'm actually happy to be where I am because it was very sensitive out there today," he said. "Lewis said in the previous session he was comfortable and then he found some form [in Q3]. It was similar for us and I think I might have lost a little bit in the first sector, which was very tricky for us to find the rhythm that we had in final practice."
