Mark Webber said that the drivers were able to make more of a difference in the changeable conditions during qualifying for the British Grand Prix.

After a close battle with Fernando Alonso, Webber eventually qualified in second place on the grid - just 0.047s slower than the Ferrari. With the session delayed for 90 minutes due to heavy rain, track conditions were constantly changing and Webber said that meant drivers could have more of an influence.

"It was a very tight session," Webber said. "Ultimately you don't really know how you're going. Obviously you're just completely focused on yourself. Putting a lap together is very tricky in sections around the lap. Obviously in a session like this when you've got five or ten seconds [lap time] sometimes between one session to the next session then it's a huge amount down to the driver to get comfortable with the conditions and also with the car."

Webber also praised his Red Bull team for its strategy during the unpredictable qualifying session.

"The guys did a great job and it was nip and tuck with Fernando for the pole. I think ultimately we put a pretty good lap together. Our strategy in qualy I was pretty happy with in terms of all four laps, race tomorrow."
