Jaime Alguersuari has put an end to speculation linking him to a drive with HRT in 2012 by "definitely ruling out" a switch to the team for next season according to sports daily AS.

Alguersuari was dropped by the Toro Rosso team at the end of only his second full season on the grid and also overlooked for Red Bull's reserve role which went to his former team-mate Sebastien Buemi.

Spanish outfit HRT was thought to be one option for Alguersuari for a race drive, but new team boss Luis Perez Sala has hinted that a driver with bigger sponsorship backing would be a more attractive team-mate for Pedro de la Rosa.

"Jaime still has options to be third driver in one of the top teams," said AS, who also quoted Alguersuari as saying the move would represent "a backwards step for his career."
