Sebastian Vettel felt that he didn't get the maximum potential out of his Red Bull during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Having looked competitive in FP3 on Saturday morning, Vettel qualified in third place behind Lewis Hamilton and Romain Grosjean at the Hungaroring. With Grosjean beating him by just 0.050s Vettel said he hadn't got the most out of the car because he didn't have a smooth path through to the final part of qualifying.

"I think for us it was more a difficulty to get everything to work properly," Vettel said. "I think the speed is there but it seems extremely difficult once you lose the balance a little bit, so I think we were struggling a little bit with that in qualifying. Throughout qualifying I think it got better, so we shot through all the tyres more or less and knew that we only had one set in Q3."

Even with his issue, Vettel admitted that he still felt he could have qualified on the front row but that Hamilton was out of reach.

"I'm not entirely happy with the lap I had, I think Romain was in reach - I think Lewis was a bit too far away today - but I think with the progress we made this morning and through qualifying I think we should be in a good position tomorrow for the race."
