Fernando Alonso praised Ferrari for giving him a consistently strong car after his 23rd consecutive points finish saw him extend his championship lead.

Having qualified in sixth place, Alonso said that his main target was to beat Mark Webber; his closest challenger in the championship standings. In the race he managed to do so by coming home fifth ahead of Webber in seventh, and Alonso said he was pleased with Ferrari's consistency as he extended his lead to 40 points.

"It was, again, a good Sunday for us in terms of points," Alonso said. "We finished in front of Webber and just one position behind Vettel. 23 times consecutively in the points is something quite impressive and the team is doing a great job giving me a strong car in my hands and finishing in all the races so this is good."

Despite the praise, Alonso warned that Ferrari was shown to have a slower car than the three teams ahead of it in the constructors' championship and that it would need to improve over the summer break.

"I think we are as we were yesterday and as we were in Germany. I think Red Bull, McLaren and Lotus are in front of us and we need to catch up. We need to close this gap, hopefully after the summer break when we come back to Spa we need to be more competitive and we need to be quicker."
