Sebastian Vettel has been reprimanded and Red Bull fined €25,000 after the new world champion decided to celebrate his title by performing doughnuts on the starting grid instead of proceeding directly to parc ferme after the Indian Grand Prix.

Vettel breached Article 43.3 of the sporting regulations, which states drivers must go directly to parc ferme - the post-race holding area for cars - "without any unnecessary delay, without receiving any object whatsoever and without any assistance (except that of the marshals if necessary)". The reprimand is his first of the year - three result in a 10-place grid penalty at the next race - while the team was fined for failing to "instruct the driver sufficiently to return directly to post-race parc ferme".

"The driver failed to proceed directly to the post-race parc ferme as detailed under Article 43.3 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations," the stewards added. "Due to the special circumstances the stewards accepted the explanation of the driver."

Vettel drove onto the pit straight after his celebratory lap and let rip with his Red Bull RB9, completing a series of celebratory doughnuts. He then got out of his car and bowed on his knees in front of it, much to the delight of the packed grandstand behind him.

The rule exists to make sure cars are returned for FIA checks in the same state that they finished the race in.
