Adrian Sutil has been handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding Lewis Hamilton during qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix.

Hamilton was on his penultimate flying lap of Q2 when he caught Sutil going slowly at the entry in to Parabolica. The time lost left Hamilton outside the top ten and being stuck behind the Force India meant he was unable to improve on his next attempt. Having investigated the incident after qualifying, the stewards penalised Sutil with a grid penalty for Sunday's race.

The stewards' decision read: "The stewards determined the impeding was not intentional however it is the responsibility of the driver to be aware of the approaching car."

As a result of the penalty, Sutil will now start from 17th on the grid at Monza.
