Michael Schumacher admitted that Monza suits Mercedes' W03 after a promising pair of Friday practice sessions for the team.

Having been quickest himself in FP1, Schumacher had to settle for tenth fastest in the second session as his DRS failed. As well as saying the car is well suited to the high-speed circuit at Monza, Schumacher was also pleased that the conditions allowed Mercedes to complete a lot of mileage and make progress throughout Friday.

"We were able to do good work with the car all day long, and it does look reasonably promising considering the last two races that we have behind us," Schumacher said.

"[Monza] does suit the car better. The package we had developed for here seems to be more in harmony with the track and therefore hopefully better positions can be possible."

Schumacher also played down the DRS problems he had in the second session which meant he couldn't use the system during FP2.

"It's not important honestly today; we did mainly focus on long run work. For single lap it didn't help not to have it, but nevertheless the long runs were reasonably good. I felt straight out of the box I felt the car was good in my hands and comfortable - much more than the last three events."
