Nico Rosberg says Mercedes will "give it everything" to take the fight to Red Bull in the Japanese Grand Prix.

After Mercedes secured a one-two in FP1, Red Bull topped the timesheets in the second practice session and looking strong on high fuel. While Rosberg admits it will be tough to get the better of Red Bull he said he was happy with the performance of his car on Friday and expects to be competitive in Sunday's race.

"It was exciting to drive today, the car felt good and felt quick so I think it will be a good weekend for us," Rosberg said. "Again, Red Bull is going to be difficult to beat but we are going to give it everything."

However, one area Rosberg was concerned was with the setting sun at Suzuka blinding drivers at times.

"It was difficult out there, especially in the end where the sun is so low and there are some corners where the sun just comes right from the front. It's going to be worse in the race because the race is even later and that's a big challenge because I literally don't see the corner and just drive by memory."
