Lewis Hamilton said that the McLaren MP4-27 "will be the best car I'll probably have for a while" at Suzuka after two competitive practice sessions on Friday.

At the first race following confirmation of his move to Mercedes at the end of the season, Hamilton was second quickest in both practice sessions ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix. Hamilton said that the car felt "awesome" but that he's wary of the threat from Red Bull having been beaten by Mark Webber in FP2.

"I think this will be the best car I'll probably have for a while here," Hamilton said. "It's definitely better here than it's ever been but it's still pretty close to the Red Bulls particularly, but it feels awesome. The lap that I did felt pretty good, but again it can always be better. Tomorrow's going to be interesting with the Red Bull's which - as I said - are very, very quick with their long runs as well so the race looks like it's with them."

Despite winning in Italy and being poised for victory in Singapore, Hamilton added that he hoped his performances would improve even further now he had made a decision about his future.

"I hope it's even better than now. Today's been a stress-free day, it's just been really about focusing on the car, trying to really improve, making sure that we make the right turns set-up wise; I love it. I love driving the car and there's nowhere else I'd rather be."
