The Lotus Formula One team are expected to reveal their first driver signing after team boss Tony Fernandes revealed the news via Twitter. Fernandes did not reveal the driver's identity but said an announcement would be made soon.

"1Malaysia Formula 1 team, aka Lotus, has signed its first driver," read the message. "Public announcement soon. The dream continues."

Technical director Mike Gascoyne has already indicated that Lotus will not be signing a pay driver but instead looking for a pair of experienced F1 drivers to help develop the car in the team's first season.

Ex-Toyota driver Jarno Trulli has been linked to a race seat at the new team due to his ties with Gascoyne. The pair worked together at Jordan, Renault and Toyota and the 35-year-old Trulli is more than experienced enough to meet Gascoyne's demands.

Malaysian Fairuz Fauzy has also been linked to the team which is part owned by the Malaysian government and a consortium of companies from the same country. However, Fauzy, who finished second in Formula Renault 3.5 last season, is expected to take the roll as test driver.
