Fresh from securing second place in the World Series by Renault championship, Fairuz Fauzy believes he has given himself a fighting chance of moving up into F1 for 2010. The Malaysian has been linked with his country's new Lotus F1 team, and he hopes he has done enough to convince the team of his ability.

"With Lotus F1, there is a real possibility of me achieving my lifetime dream of driving in F1, but I knew I needed to really prove that I was ready," Fauzy told the New Straits Times. "I hope with this, I have proved enough."

Lotus are yet to announce their driver line-up for next season, but former Minardi driver Alex Yoong and Toyota veteran Jarno Trulli have also been linked to the government-backed team.

Meanwhile, Malaysian MPs have asked the government to provide assurances they would not stop backing should the team fail to meet expectations. Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan suggested that key performance indicators should be created to gauge both the team's performance and its success in promoting tourism in Malaysia.
