Top speed not everything in Canada - Raikkonen
Kimi Raikkonen is not convinced Lotus's straight-line speed will put his team at a distinct advantage at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.
Both Lotus cars have featured near the top of the speed trap recordings this year and straight-line speed is a key factor to a good lap time at Montreal. But Raikkonen is not convinced his car will automatically be quick this weekend.
"We've been good in the top speed, but sometimes it's just that we have less downforce than others so sometimes it's just that we're are fast in the straights," he said. "It's not always the top speed that is going to make you fast [over a lap], if you don't have the downforce through the corners it doesn't help you. We have to wait and see how it turns out."
Lotus's form has fluctuated since the start of the season, often with its ability to get the tyres working to their full potential in both qualifying and the race. But Raikkonen said the struggles up and down the pit lane are proof that all the teams are still struggling to get the best from the Pirellis.
"We are probably not the only people that have the issues," he said. "If everybody knew how to fix the problems then we would not have the issue. It seems to be difficult to get the tyres always working at exactly the right temperature and many teams have had problems at different races and we try always to avoid it but sometimes we can't find a solution for it."
