Maldonado feels Williams in the dark over solutions

Pastor Maldonado says Williams doesn't know how to solve the problems with its FW35.

After an encouraging pre-season testing campaign, Williams was surprised to find itself well off the pace in Australia as it struggled to get the potential out of its new car. Things did not improve significantly during Friday practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix and Maldonado admitted the team was in the dark about how to solve the issues it is having.

"We know very well what is happening in the car, we just don't know how to solve the problems," Maldonado said. "We try different things, we improve a little bit but still there is a long way to go.

"It's difficult to find a good solution. We're just trying to put different cars on to the track with different solutions but we have struggled more than we expected."

Maldonado did say that Williams had made some progress in the hotter Malaysian conditions, but says it is a long way from where it expected to be.

"We improved; we improved the car a little bit. For sure tomorrow we will improve a little bit more during the qualifying because normally in qualy our car is going a bit better than in the tests, even with dropping the fuel level, but still far away from the target."
