Felipe Massa believes the rain which hit qualifying helped Ferrari get two cars in the top three on the grid for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Though Sebastian Vettel took a dominant pole position, Massa lines up on the front row for the first time since the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2010 after he outqualified his team-mate Fernando Alonso for the fourth consecutive race. However, Massa admitted he didn't expect Ferrari to be able to get so high up on the grid in dry conditions.

"Well I would say maybe [the rain helped], yes," Massa said. "I don't know if we were able to be second and third in the dry; we had some other quick cars like Webber, Kimi, maybe Mercedes as well so I think it was a good qualifying from us. We took the right decision to stop, to change tyres and managed to put a good lap together as well. I think maybe the rain helped a bit."

Massa said his focus would be on getting the strategy right for tomorrow, which could enable to Ferrari to maintain its positions even if the race is dry.

"[Strategy will be] very important. We know how these tyres behave in the high temperatures. For sure we have teams that are suffering a little bit more than other teams, so we need to concentrate and make sure we do our job. For sure if we do the right job we can be in good positions at the end of the race."
