Kimi Raikkonen will take a five-place grid penalty at the Malaysian Grand Prix after a gearbox change was required on the Lotus.

After Raikkonen finished the second practice session in 15th place he said that the team had yet to show its true pace. However, later in the evening the Lotus team tweeted that there was a problem with the gearbox that was keeping the engineers at the circuit.

"A bit more work for Kimi's crew this evening," the tweet read. "An issue with Kimi's gearbox so we're changing it now."

The change comes with an automatic five-place grid penalty which will be applied following qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
