Sergio Perez is excited by the prospect of a Mexican Grand Prix in 2014 after it was named on a provisional calendar.

The 21-race calendar submitted to the teams by the FIA includes the return of Mexico for the first time since 1992, with the race scheduled to be the first of a back-to-back with Austin. Perez said that he was really excited about the prospect of having a home grand prix and thinks Mexico is well placed to ensure the race comes to fruition.

"I'm very happy, very excited," Perez said. "I mean it's not confirmed yet - it's just a pre-calendar - but I see a very big chance of this happening. I think it will be great for my country, great for the sport and Formula One will be amazed if it happens at how popular this grand prix can become after just a single race.

"I think the people in Mexico are really looking forward and are very enthusiastic about it. It will just be fantastic news for my whole country; I really hope it happens."

Perez also confirmed he'd been aware of the progress being made with plans to secure a slot on the calendar.

"I've been involved and I know they're making very good progress. Everyone is trying so hard - fans, media, sponsors - everyone is really trying to make it because we all know how good it can be for our country. Daily, outside Mexico people are always talking about how bad Mexico is, how dangerous it is, so I think it's a great opportunity for us as a country to show the world how good we can be and how good we are.

"I think [Mexico City] is definitely the right place. The infrastructure is amazing; there are a lot of people so I think in terms of a package it is the best place where you can have a race."
