Jenson Button is confident Eric Boullier's appointment as racing director at McLaren can start a turnaround for the team.

McLaren underperformed in 2013 and has seen a shakeup in its management over the winter, with Ron Dennis returning to the very top of the team. Boullier has been named as racing director, but will serve under a yet-to-be-appointed CEO who will then report to Dennis.

Button believes Boullier will bring fresh ideas and be an important part of the new management structure.

"It's good to have fresh ideas and he does add to the team," he said. "The team will never be changed by one individual, but he does add something. I think when the management structure is complete we will be in good shape."

Boullier comes to the team from Lotus, where he dealt admirably with the team's funding issues towards the end of last year as well as overseeing impressive on-track performance. Button is confident he is the right man for the job.

"I've never worked with him, but as a friend in the paddock I know him," he added. "I don't know the way that he works. Last year Lotus had a very interesting and exciting last few years. Last year was very difficult for the team with what was going on in the background and it did look like he controlled that issue relatively well. I'm looking forward to working with him."
