Mercedes wants to explain itself over tyre test
Mercedes says it will "welcome the opportunity to explain the full facts" of its tyre test with Pirelli in front of the FIA's International Tribunal.
The FIA announced on Wednesday evening that it was summoning Mercedes over the test as it believes it "may constitute a breach of the applicable FIA rules". In a statement issued on Thursday ahead of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes responded that it was pleased to have the chance to deliver its version of events.
"Mercedes-Benz acknowledges the decision of the FIA to take the matter of the Pirelli Test before the International Tribunal," the statement read. "We welcome the opportunity to explain the full facts of the Pirelli Test in an open and transparent manner at the International Tribunal.
"Sporting integrity is of primary importance to Mercedes-Benz and we have the utmost confidence in the due process of the FIA."
If found to be in breach of regulations, the team faces a range of hefty penalties from expulsion from the constructors' championship to a fine. No date has yet been set for the International Tribunal.
