Mercedes director Norbert Haug has denied suggestions that Michael Schumacher may not live out his agreed contract at the team.

After coming out of retirement before the 2010 season, the seven time world champion signed a contract with Mercedes until the end of 2012.

But after being soundly outpaced by young team-mate Nico Rosberg in the first three races of the season, rumours have circulated that Schumacher may not see the end of his three-year commitment.

"It's quite the contrary," Haug told Germany's Bild newspaper. "I know that Michael is highly motivated and wants to make his comeback for the long term, with long term success."

Schumacher already trails Rosberg by 26 points but Haug says Schumacher will get back to winning ways when the car is right.

"As soon as the car can do it, so can Michael," said Haug. "The fact that he has not had better results so far is not his fault. The true fans are experts and know exactly what has happened so far and why there is the points deficit."
