Upbringing makes me hungrier than Rosberg - Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton thinks his more humble upbringing makes him hungrier for world title success in 2014 than Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, according to the BBC.
The contrast between the pair's lives before motorsport is notable; Hamilton was brought up on a council estate in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, while Rosberg, the son of 1982 world champion Keke, was raised in Monaco and attended elite European schools.
"Let me tell you this, I come from a not-great place in Stevenage and lived on a couch in my dad's apartment," Hamilton is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail and the Independent. "Nico grew up in Monaco with jets and hotels and boats and all these kind of things. So the hunger is different."
Hamilton, who is now worth an estimated £68 million and was named the richest British sportsman for 2014, is looking to make it five wins in a row at Rosberg's home town of Monaco. The championship leader says his determination to win the title is what he wants to set him apart from the rest of the field.
"I want to be the hungriest guy in the cockpit from all 22 of us - even if every driver has to believe that he's the hungriest. If I were to come here believing that Nico is hungrier than me then I might as well go home. So I've got to be the hungriest. To win the world championship you need to be the hungriest."
