Michael Schumacher will extend his comeback for at least one more season in pursuit of the eighth world championship he returned to Formula One to win.

Schumacher's first season after a three-year absence hasn't gone to plan, although his uncompetitive Mercedes has had at least as much to do with his ninth-place standing in the drivers' championship as his own personal rustiness.

His team-mate Nico Rosberg has collected 90 points to Schumacher's 36, though, suggesting that there has been some poor performance on the 41-year-old's part.

Schumacher insists a combination of an improved car and a year of racing under his belt will position him to challenge for honours in 2011. Ahead of his home grand prix, the German confirmed he would race in 2011, and that winning the title remained his aim.

When asked if expectations had been too high for his first season back, he said: "Am I perfectly happy with my own performance? That is probably the wrong thing to say. There is an expectation out there but you have to be realistic that it is probably impossible to meet.

"To be out three years and start where I finished in a car that doesn't allow me to do it, is unrealistic. I will take my time. I enjoy most of it, this process. There are ups and downs and that is part of motor sport. I am very confident I can achieve it, which is what I am focusing for."
