Although what has been a disappointing 2010 campaign is still not over, Michael Schumacher has already started to play down expectations for next season.

"We began with our new car earlier than some other teams, which is an advantage," he said. "But we shouldn't expect any miracles. We cannot take two steps at once. We are after all a smaller team than the big ones, so we have slightly less capacity."

Asked about pressure on him on the final weekend in Abu Dhabi, he replied: "I do not need a podium … but of course I would prefer to have one."

Mercedes boss Norbert Haug added Schumacher was continuing to improve. "We've seen little windows of performance with Michael, and those windows are becoming more frequent now. I think particularly in the last few races he's had particularly good races."
