Michael Schumacher insists he is no different a driver to when he was at the peak of his game at Ferrari and that his crashes this season are merely a sign of his focus to succeed.

Schumacher has been involved in an uncharacteristic number of off-track excursions and collisions since his return to F1 last season and yet again he is struggling to match the pace of team-mate Nico Rosberg.

"Each of the collisions this season had a different reason," Schumacher told Auto Motor und Sport. "I'm no different to before and certainly not unfocused. Believe me, I have found some unfortunate situations unnecessary and would gladly have avoided them.

"I am just fighting as hard as I can to get to the front, and for that I have to take some risks."
